He maintains his CPA license, teaches at the University of California, San Diego, and serves as a director of a privately held manufacturing company. He previously served as a director and chair of the Audit Committee of Excel Trust, Inc. from April 2010 to August 2015 and as Board Chair of The San Diego Foundation, a non-profit organization with over $575 million in assets, including as Chair of its Finance, Audit and Executive Committees, and as a Director of The San Diego Foundation for 14 years. Mr. Blakley is a Board Leadership Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors.
