It compares the amount of money that remains after the cost of goods and all operating expenses are subtracted from net revenue to sales. EBIT margin is calculated as earnings before interest and taxes divided by net revenue.

EBIT margin is usually used to compare operational efficiency and profitability of companies within the same industry.
